JUDGE'S
& EDITOR'S CHOICE
"An
irreverent, fun and funny ('The Rockies are the children of a tumultuous
affair between continental plates') but a fact-filled and helpful guide
to Canada's Rocky Mountains"
Stephen Kimber, Director, School of Journalism, University of
King's College and judge for the Northern Lights Awards. Comments made
when awarding the First Prize, Newspaper Category for Cleo's The Complete
Guide to the Canadian Rockies published in The Independent (London, UK).

The judges
sailed through an ocean of entries serious in both purpose and tone. And
yet, many tourists themselves are in search of fun. So it was like being
cast onto Paradise Island when we read Cleo Paskal's unabashedly joyous
paean to curling in Winnipeg. Right from the opening paragraph, where
she admits curling was never her "thing," Paskal draws the reader in,
especially the reader who, like us, wouldn't otherwise give the sport
a moment's thought. She accomplishes that through an innocent brand of
humour that has the reader sympathetically chuckling; a controlled mix
of sentence structure, from short staccato to long, detailed legato; a
keen eye for character and mood; a graceful aside for history and philosophy;
an unhurried knack for telling a good yarn; and a balanced blend of source-supplied
information and the author's first-hand experience. "I am the bestest!"
she exclaims when she successfully throws her first curling rock. The
bestest, indeed.

in the National Post.

I'm very
happy with the piece. And I like the sidebar adds and factoids, etc. Think
it's a great package. Interesting, respectful and full of great info,
but it doesn't take itself too seriously. Thanks again for your efforts
and being patient with our early deadlines.
